A Novel Approach to Measuring Cytochrome c Oxidase, ATP Synthase, and PDH Activity and Quantity


MitoSciences offers MitoProfile® rapid immunocapture microplate assays that provide a fast, efficient and accurate method for measuring the activity and quantity of either cytochrome c oxidase, ATP synthase or PDH.

Given the success of our previous standard microplate assay kits, MitoSciences' rapid microplate assay kits provide improved ease of use for researchers, while still retaining the same high quality of assay.

With the rapid microplate assay kits, the microplate comes pre-coated with antibody, thus reducing the number of required kit components and steps within the protocol, creating a simple, fast assay.

The rapid microplate assays offer several benefits and trade-offs:

• FEATURES: Microplates are fully prepped, with antibody dried in the wells.

• BENEFITS: Fewer required protocol steps, producing a simpler, faster assay. ALL wells are now measurement wells (no nulls), allowing for 96 measurements (as opposed to a typical 75 measurements)

• TRADE-OFFS: Wells are pre-defined, disallowing the researcher to define the wells.



As well, our microplate assays offer many advantages over traditional assay methods or polarography:

• VERSATILITY: PDH can be isolated from whole tissue samples or even whole cultured cells without the need to isolate mitochondria.

• SPEED & EFFICIENCY: 1-96 samples are measured simultaneously.

• ACCURACY & REPRODUCIBILITY: With so many wells available for repeats, accuracy is assured with no extra effort.

MS641 is a high-throughput test for determining whether mitochondrial biogenesis has been up-regulated or down-regulated in human samples. The assay works on very small amounts of sample material and is suitable for screening of antiviral and antibiotic drugs.

MSA42 Rapid Microplate Assay Kit for Apoptosis-Inducing Factor (AIF)
AIF is a flavoprotein (67 kDa) localized in the inter-membrane space. It is a multi-functional protein with a vital oxidoreductase function (required for cell survival), an anti-oxidant activity, an assembly function in Complex I (NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase complex) formation and an apoptogenic function. AIF has a major role in the caspase-independent apoptosis process. It translocates to the nucleus after mitochondrial release, leading to chromatin condensation and DNA fragmentation.

The gene is expressed in every cell, although in varying levels in different tissues and during development.
