Brief Description & Uses
100 µg of monoclonal antibody reactive against the 55 kDa F1F0
ATP synthase (Complex V) α subunit. MS502 also labels α in
immunocytochemical applications. Isolated mitochondria are available
from several species for use as control samples. To see the complete
list of control samples available from MitoSciences, click here.
An important recent finding is that F1F0 is an ectopic protein in many cells and tissues in addition to its location within mitochondria. In endothelial cells F1F0 acts as the angiostatin receptor. Both synthesis and hydrolysis activity of the ectopic F1F0
are inhibited by angiostatin. The α mAb (MS502) has been shown to act
as an angiostatin mimetic and to inhibit the proliferation of
endothelial cells. More recently it has been reported that in liver
cells this protein complex is the HDL receptor. Importantly not all
cells have F1F0 on their surface; there is no reactivity of this antibody with the surface of MRC-5 fibroblast cells.
