Nitrotyrosine is formed on protein tyrosine residues by peroxynitrite-induced nitration and is considered a sensitive marker for oxidative stress. Nitrotyrosine can be found in tissue in both free and protein-bound forms. Anti-nitrotyrosine antibody MS703 is specific to the protein-bound form (see Figure 3 at left).
