Alternate Names:
Complex V subunit IF1, ATP synthase mitochondrial F1 complex assembly factor 1, ATP synthase inhibitor protein, ATPase inhibitory factor 1, IF1, ATP11 homolog, ATPIF1 protein, ATPIF1
Structure and Function:
ATP synthase (complex V) is responsible for catalyzing the formation of ATP from ADP and Pi using energy from the proton concentration gradient created by preceding complexes of the respiratory chain. The two main components of this complex are F1 and F0, which are responsible for catalysis and transmembrane proton transport respectively. The IF1 subunit is thought to be involved in the assembly of the F1F0 complex.
